Support » Plugin: NextGEN Gallery - WordPress Gallery Plugin » Slideshow on iOS without Flash : any experience ?

  • Hi from France.
My configuration is WordPress 3.7 with NextGen Gallery 2.0.33.
I just upgraded from NGG 1.9 (with many fears) yesterday and the procedure may have been successfull as long as I can still see my galleries. But (because there’s always a but), it seems that the slideshows on iOS (at least) are broken. Whereas I’m pretty sure to have seen them work on my 2 websites (a criteria to choose the legacy NGG), now there’s only the message “Slideshows require the Flash Player and a browser with Javascript support”. Useless to add that Flash is according to me totally deprecated today, especially on mobile devices and for the purposes of slideshows. So, is anybody there could tell me if slideshows are supposed to work on iOS without Flash ? I begun to desactivate some other plugins with no luck. For an example, you can visit
    See you !

  • ran into the same problem my self on windows help would be great

if slideshows are supposed to work on iOS without Flash ?

Yes, select the non-flash slide show and it should work fine

Hi. I’ve worked on my websites these 2 last days to fix the issues as much as possible.
NextGEN Gallery actually offers a Flash slide show which according to me is broken because whatever you set, the pictures are shown in a random order. Because of this issue and because Flash is deprecated especially on mobile devices (who wants to fight about that ?), you may want to turn off the Flash slideshow to the non-Flash one. But if you do that :
    – you loose the navigation bar and the full screen mode
    – you can’t use the pagination function for the thumbnails mode because there’s another issue in NextGEN Gallery which prevents to go back and forth between thumbnails mode after the first page to slideshow mode.
So you may decide as me :
    – to make available the non-Flash slideshow where you don’t need pagination in thumbnails mode (also when you don’t need navigations controls)
    – to make available the other form of slideshow which is the Cooliris / Picslens one which provides a navigation bar and a full screen mode for Flash lovers.
But I’ve noted that this last one seems to also present a major issue : some pictures are skipped, maybe after using too much the navigation bar, but I have still to investigate with that.
If you’re interested by this thread, you may visit my website at
You’ll see what decisions I took as compromises. For a quick tour, go to the “Galerie” pages of the different cars, to the “Chrysler Car Show” page and finally, if you wan’t to see the actual issues with NextGEN Gallery, you can go to the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Gallery where I left a debug page for the author if he cares about it.
    Best regards.
