Slideshow not working – only displaying the loader

  • Hi Stefan, I’m having a problem with your slideshow (I’ve used it before on loads of sites). I’ve installed the plugin and when activated no images are displayed – they are loading into the source but only the preloader graphic appears. Any ideas?

    1. Using WordPress 3.8.1
    2. Disabled plugins
    3. Disabled all occurrences of JS/jQuery
    4. It works in 2013 theme

    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi Darren,

It sounds like your theme is missing the required “<?php wp_footer(); ?>” function call in its “footer.php” file. Look at this forum thread for more information.

If that doesn’t solve the issue, could I please see your website?

    Best regards,
    Stefan

    Hi,

I’m having the same issue although the “<?php wp_footer(); ?>” function call is indeed right before the </body> in the “footer.php” file. The slideshow works when I’m logged into my wordpress site… but it doesn’t work for anyone else (my website: applicationswindowsphone.com)

Any idea what could cause this issue (and how to solve it)?

    Many thanks for your help,

    Antoine

    Hi Antoine,

Is your slideshow supposed to show up on your home page, or have you put it on another page?

    Best regards,
    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,

Thanks for the quick reply. The slideshow is supposed to appear in the first post: http://applicationswindowsphone.com/lappli-windows-phone-du-jour-6tag/

    Hi Antoine,

It looks like you’re using a caching plugin to speed up your website, as I see a cached script that includes all your site’s scripts.

I’m guessing that the problem is caused because the slideshow’s script isn’t in that cached script yet. Could you please try to flush/empty/refresh the cache of your caching plugin?

    Best regards,
    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,

I initially thought the cache was the problem as well but after several attempts at flushing the cache, it doesn’t seem to solve the problem.

    Any other ideas?

Again many thanks for your (extremely) useful help,

    Kind regards,

    Antoine

    Hi Antoine,

That’s a shame. Could you please try to check if the issue is caused by a conflict with another plugin by temporarily disabling your other plugins and seeing if the slideshow works?

    Best regards,
    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,

W3 Total Cache seems to be the issue indeed. When disabled, the slideshow plugin works just fine.

I’ve tried empyting the Minify cache several times but it doesn’t seem to do the trick for some bizarre reason.

Any idea why the slideshow trick isn’t included in the atuo-generated cached script of W3 Total Cache?

    Many thanks,

    Antoine

    Hi Antoine,

It’s strange that the slideshow’s script isn’t included when minifying your website’s scripts.

I would have to test this myself to be able to see what’s going on, but I only have time to do some forum support at the moment. Have you already tried asking the W3 Total Cache support forum for help?

    Best regards,
    Stefan

Thanks, I’ll try the W3 Total Cache forum and post a solution here (if I find it!)

    Best,

    Antoine
