after I updated wordpress 3.5.1 the slideshow plugin disappeared.
when I try to reinstall, it gives the following error:

    Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/slideshow-jquery-image-gallery.zip…

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

    Destination folder already exists. D:/hosting/10238585/html/wp-content/plugins/slideshow-jquery-image-gallery/

    Plugin install failed.

I had a similar issue with the same error message. Found that you shouldn't use the WP page for uploading a plugin in .zip format in those cases.
What worked for me instead was to:
    1.) deactivate the slideshow plugin
2.) unzip the zip-file and then copy all of the files into the plugin's folder (wp-content/plugins/slideshow-jquery-image-gallery/ in my case)on the server via FTP directly (thereby overwriting the old files).
3.) reactivate the slideshow plugin in WP

    Hope this helps.
