    Hi,

NextGen Gallery: latest version = multiple issues!

I have researched my particular issue in depth but cannot find a solution that actually works! From what I see of other people posts Photocrati don’t seem to care!

Basically, the homepage slideshow no longer works (www.andrewnewey.com) and the custom CSS styling of the thumbnail grid no longer works (www.andrewnewey.com/portfolio).

I have tried placing the nggstyles.css file in the theme folder, but makes no difference.

Can anyone help fix this or is everyone rolling back to an older version?

    Thanks

    UPDATE:

I have followed previous advice about inserting the custom CSS code into > Other Options > Styles, but this makes NO difference…

@ajnphoto – There appears to be an issue on your site that is not allowing jQuery to be loaded which would cause NextGEN Gallery (and likely other plugins on your site) to not work as expected. I would suggest looking into that particular issue first.

Have you tried deactivating all of your plugins, clearing your browser cache (and site caches if you are using a caching plugin), then reactivating the NextGEN plugin?

If this fixes the problem then it was likely one of the deactivated plugins that was causing an issue. Now, retrace your steps activating each plugin and re-checking to see if the problem returns. If it does then that last activated plugin was probably the one. Keep reactivating and in most cases it is also best to keep checking after each plugin, sometimes there may be more than one plugin on a site that will create an issue. If you do find one (or more) plugins causing this problem we would greatly appreciate your feedback on them so the developers may address them as soon as they can.

Also to note, in rare cases it may be the theme itself that is causing a conflict so while you have just the NextGEN plugin activated you might consider temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress Twenty series themes and see if this corrects the issue as well.

If the problem still persists after all of this we would still want to know, even more so, as we will still want to sort out the issue and may need additional details.

    Thanks!

    Cias.

I got to be honest and tell you that I am really quite disgusted you/Imagely blame any issues with WordPress or other plugins. Why can you not take any responsibility?

I am using the latest version of WordPress and all plugins are up to date. My website have been working perfectly since it was built 5 years ago. Only after (reluctantly) updating the NextGen Gallery plugin recently did the layout break!

Tell me, how is this an issue with the site itself or other plugins?

Just to reiterate the WHOLE site was working perfectly fine with all the plugins activated, so I really don’t see why I should waste my time deactivating/reactivating them!

I really hoped you would have learnt from all the negative comments about this issue on the internet that the problem lies with YOUR plugin and not others!

@ajnphoto – I see there is no longer a jQuery issue on your site and the display you linked to seems to be working fine now.

Are you still seeing issues; or, is this resolved as it appears to be?

    Thanks!

    Hi Cais,

    This issue is not resolved!

The slideshow and thumbnail layout is back to normal because I uninstalled the latest version and reinstalled version 1.9 (which my custom css applies to).

The only reason I decided to finally update the NG plugin was because after a recent WordPress core update I was unable to upload any images or sort the images in existing galleries.

Which do you think I should try to fix? The uploading/sorting issue with the older version (1.9) or the slideshow/thumbnail layout issue with the new version (2.2)???

Apologies for my tone previously, but I have absolutely no intention of using a different theme OR removing any of the plugins, so being advised to do so make no sense at all. I’m sure you understand.

    Thanks

@ajnphoto – We no longer provide support for NextGEN Legacy versions and as such we always recommend all active plugins as well as the current theme and especially WordPress be kept up-to-date with their respective latest stable releases.

As to removing other active plugins and/or permanently changing the current theme, we are not suggesting that. What we are asking/suggesting is to test for conflicts with those items to see if/what might be involved with this problem. If something does come back as creating a “conflict” then we may have a much better idea on how to approach this.

Often times when updating from NextGEN Legacy to current NextGEN Gallery the issue is due to the significant changes in the code base as well as possibly changes in the HTML elements being created that would push to have the “layout” re-adjusted from the default versus making changes to past custom CSS. In some rare cases, it can be a necessity to use the Reset Option under Gallery > Other Options to push the installation into the more correct current configurations (although this often makes rolling back to NextGEN Legacy not possible).

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
