site/wp-login.php can now be put as site/login after settings>permalinks change? (1 post)

I've been developing with WordPress for quite some time now, and I usually do a .htaccess edit for sites to allow the user to have a custom login URL (such as site/login) instead of typing wp-login.php in the explorer bar.

Recently however, I've found that changing the permalinks to a custom type actually enables the user to access the login page through site/login instead of having to do a .htaccess rewrite.

Is there an update for WordPress that mentions this that I missed? Or is it a custom permalink rewrite bug?
