I’m a wp beginner. I’m using the 2010 theme but have a lot of unused space on both the left and right sides of my website: http://www.stjoesbuckeystown.org/. In other words, it is not full width. The 2010 theme does not have full width option in the page attribute drop down menu but I’m not sure if that’s the problem. I’ve tried another theme with full-width in its page attribute list (wellington) but it still did not become full width in my browsers (Edge and Chrome) when I selected that option. In fact, it had exactly the same amount of empty space on both sides. I would like all my site web pages to be full width or at least not have so much empty real estate on both sides. Is this a WordPress issue? If so is there a site option to make all my site’s pages be full width? Do I create a child theme? What exactly would I put in the child theme?

how wide is your browser window / screen?

the theme has a fixed width of 940px.

generally, very many themes have set a maximum width even if all is set to be ‘full width’….

Not sure how to measure how wide in pixels but I have 1 27-inch display. If I resize my browser to make it smaller then the left/right areas are also smaller. Is there a way to reset the maximum width so I get a greater width on all devices?

Twenty Ten is not a responsive theme, so setting the fixed width values to larger numbers (which needs to be done for various styles, possibly via a child themor in ‘appearance – customize – additional CSS’) might possibly look better on your large screen, but would cause a horizontal scroll bar for all other users viewing the site in smaller screens such as laptops or hand-help devices.

maybe, search for a responsive theme which would adjust to the screen widths; in those themes, you should be able, if you really need this for your site, to adjust the max-width.

So there is no way to customize the 2010 theme for this?
