Support » Plugin: All in One SEO Pack » sitemap_post_1 is blank with no errors in the console

    Hello,

I don’t know if this is related to the latest update or not, which I did earlier (now being with the AIOSEO v2.11), but my : sitemap_post_1.xml
is blank when I open it.
It doesnt have any errors in the console.
Viewing the code shows the sitemap content.

sitemap_post_2.xml does not seem to be blank and I can read it.
    Any idea what is happening?

    Thanks !

PS Maybe useful to know : my wordpress version is 4.9.9, I havent upgraded to the 5 yet

@herbertwest1 I checked that sitemap and it is displaying for me but the styles that make it human readable aren’t loading. This could indicate a resource issue such as memory or a PHP timeout. You could set the Maximum Posts per Sitemap Page lower (https://semperplugins.com/documentation/xml-sitemaps-module/#enable-sitemap-indexes).

    Thanks for the reply !

I actually understood the issue as Google Search Console noticed and error and gave me a line number which led me to an erratic image caption.

<image:caption>No Merchandising. Editorial Use Only. No Book Cover Usage.

I am guessing that the issue was the “line break” in the caption, after “No Book Cover Usage.”

The caption was automated when I uploaded the picture.

Maybe All In One SEO could clear the picture caption when generating the sitemap files?
I deleted the entire caption and this error seems to have disappeared), but maybe AISEO could have turned the line break and turned it into a space?

    Thanks again !

PS : good to know, firefox detects error in the sitemap, helping to debug

    Thanks @herbertwest1.

I’ve opened a bug report for this here – https://github.com/semperfiwebdesign/all-in-one-seo-pack/issues/2169

We’ll test this to verify we can reproduce it and then look at implementing a fix.

    Thanks.
I think that the latest version of the plugin may have had a regression about those.

I am now going back to every single error that firefox tells me in the sitemap. And there quite a few.
Those are articles that are dated months ago, and I didnt have those sitemap error up until the recent update of the plugin

@herbertwest1, I tested with an image caption that has a line break and could not reproduce the problem in any version of All in One SEO Pack after version 2.9.1.1. I tested with the caption you provided and did not have any problems viewing the XML sitemap or any errors from Google Search Console.

I dont remember exactly which picture had this specific tags.

However, I remember a few others. Including this one :
    https://www.syfy.com/sites/syfy/files/styles/1140×640/public/2017/08/stephen_king.jpg?timestamp=1502737529

    Save it.
You can see that the file includes informations :
Stephen King signs the copies of his book ‘Rivival’ at Barnes & Noble Union Square in New York City on November 11, 2014.

Upload it on wordpress, do NOT edit any of the caption, legend etc.
    Add it in an article.
Check out your sitemap1.xml or whatever sitemap file should include that article.

The sitemap is not readable anymore. Firefox will give you an error. I think that it relatoves to the ‘ in the caption

Delete the picture of your article.
    Reload the sitemap.
    The sitemap is fine.

In my opinion, the captions should in general be filtered / retreated before being added to the sitemap.
No line break. No special characters, such as at least : ” ‘ `
    etc

I’d be happy to give more exemples as I remember a few more pictures which were causing issues. I’d just need to find the originals with the infos in them

@herbertwest1 I tested this by following the steps you provided and could not reproduce the problem. Here’s my post and sitemap:

    Hello @wpsmort ,

Your sitemap redirects to the homepage 😉
In your post, the picture seems to have no informations contrary to this one :
    https://www.syfy.com/sites/syfy/files/styles/1140×640/public/2017/08/stephen_king.jpg?timestamp=1502737529

So I guess that they had been deleted. Do you use a plugin to do so?

I am on windows. When I save the picture above. Use irfanwview (yes i am old ^^) or check out the properties of the pictures, it includes datas
When I upload the picture in WP, they are still there and that’s what is causing the issues

@herbertwest1 I’ve used the image you sent and uploaded it to a standard WordPress post. I have not been able to reproduce this. The sitemap is viewable on my site again and you can see the source code with the line breaks here – view-source:http://stevemortiboy.com/sitemap_post.xml

Can you contact us here please and we can troubleshoot this further with you – https://semperplugins.com/contact/. Please paste the URL for this forum threads in the license key field in our contact form.

    Hello @wpsmort ,
I will contact you from the link

But I do remember, now, that I forked wordpress in order to automatically add the pictures infos into the alt, title of the picture.
It’s probably this that adds them into the picture details, but then the sitemap generation do not refilter after that.

FYI, this is the fork I used. I will probably edit the list of characters to avoid adding those as well : ‘ ” « » but dont know for the line break
