@gloriousservice We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue on your site.

Whereas the XML Sitemap should dynamically update after any modification to it, if the site or server is caching the sitemap this can cause it to not update right away. We also have additional information on this at the following link: https://yoast.com/help/sitemap-does-not-update/.

If you are not seeing the sitemap as updated, we would recommend checking your caching settings and to ensure that the sitemap is being excluded from the cache.

If the sitemap is being cached by a plugin we have directions on how to add an exclusion for the sitemap files to your cache plugin at the following link: https://yoast.com/help/exclude-sitemaps-from-cache/

If you are still experiencing an issue with the sitemap not updating after checking your site’s caching settings, you can also force a cache reset by temporarily disabling the sitemap feature, and then re-enabling it. To do so please perform the following steps:

In order to disable and then re-enable sitemaps in the Yoast SEO plugin, you would need to perform the following actions:

    • In WordPress go to SEO>General>Features
    • Toggle the ‘XML Sitemaps’ option to ‘Off’
    • Click ‘Save Changes’
    • Toggle the ‘XML Sitemaps’ option to ‘On’
    • Click ‘Save Changes’

We also have a guide on how to enable and disable XML Sitemaps here: https://yoast.com/help/xml-sitemaps-in-the-wordpress-seo-plugin/

Can you please try the aforementioned suggestions and letting us know whether it resolves your issue and you are able to successfully update the sitemap?`

your guide doesn’t say what to do in litecache plugin

+ disabling the xml saving and enabling the xml , doesn’t solve the problem

we also asked our host to look into litecache, and they said its not under cache

    -$ curl -ILks https://educatetravel.com/sitemap_index.xml | grep -Ei “^http|cache”
    HTTP/2 200
    x-litespeed-cache-control: no-cache

    Hi @gloriousservice

Upon further checking, we are sorry you’re having a similar issue. Please open a new request. That way it’s easier to track issues and provide assistance. Thanks!

    Hi @saveatrain

Upon checking, it looks like your /post-sitemap1.xml, /post-sitemap2.xml, /post-sitemap3.xml, and /page-sitemap.xml all have a blank last modified date when checking the main sitemap index.

Are these imported posts or pages? If you were to edit one of the posts (in let’s say your /post-sitemap1.xml) and make slight changes and save and update the change, does it then populate the last modified date as expected?

    Thread Starter saveatrain

    (@saveatrain)

    1. they are not imported
    2. we actually updated many of our posts in the past couple of days with categories – so the answer is no, it doesn’t update.

is there a way you can get into my admin and check the wp database, my guess you had a bug that still infects this

    Hi @saveatrain

If you’ve already followed the steps in this article to clear all caches and to manually rebuild the sitemap, and it still hasn’t updated, please do try resetting the indexables:

Can you please try resetting our indexables in the database tables by following the steps below?
    1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations’, ‘Reset Prominent words calculation’, and ‘Reset Internal link counter’ buttons. After each click, the page will reload to confirm that each reset was successful. Note: this won’t actually erase your SEO data, which is also stored in WordPress’ default tables. It’ll just reset our index (custom tables) for that data.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “Start SEO data optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your content.

For your site’s health and safety, we recommend creating regular backups of your site and database. This is especially important before installing, updating, or removing plugins.

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, we would then suggest performing a conflict check, just to ensure that there isn’t any conflicting plugin or theme on your website.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to log in to your website and check your database tables over these public forums. You may want to consider Yoast SEO Premium so we can provide premium personal support over email, and where we can take a closer look at this issue. We have a lenient 30-day refund policy, so if you are unhappy at all with the support or features in the premium plugin, you can request a full refund at any point within those 30 days.

It didn’t fix the modified issue
and the interesting thing, is that 2 files are being modified since we started this thread
    https://educatetravel.com/sitemap_index.xml

mayble its normal behaviour as you would expect?

We are sorry to hear that you’re still having trouble with our plugin. Due to the nature of the issue, we’ll need to take a look at your setup. However, we are unable to do it here as this is a public forum.

So, if you have an active Yoast SEO Premium subscription or if you can consider buying one, we can investigate the issue further directly on your setup privately through email.

However, if you don’t wish to get the Yoast SEO Premium subscription, that’s completely fine. In this case, you’ll need to troubleshoot the issue further on your setup as we are literally out of any clue at this moment without taking a look at the setup. So, someone from the community might step forward as well who has experienced or is familiar with the issue.

    Thanks for your understanding!

i dont have premium, but lets do something else

where in the db, can I potentially submit the last modified,
maybe entering it once manually will fix it

and your bug is happening because for some reason this field is empty?

Plugin Support Md Mazedul Islam Khan

    (@mazedulislamkhan)

We are afraid to say that we are unable to confirm from where exactly Yoast SEO finds the relevant last modified date and output in the XML sitemap as this is something that goes beyond support and requires a deeper look at the code on the core codebase of the plugin.

So, if someone else in the forum is familiar with it, they can jump into the topic and might help you with it as well.

That said, we are aware of a bug where the last modified date issue occurs when the sitemap splits into multiple pages alongside MySQL 8+. You can find the relevant bug report here: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/16803

can you please tell me in what table in the db of the WordPress i change the last modified please?

    (@mazedulislamkhan)

As mentioned, we are unable to what exact tables in the database you’ll need to look for to fix last modified date issue.

    Thread Starter saveatrain

    (@saveatrain)

but last modified comes from a specific table, can you please ask your team?

    Plugin Support Michael Tiña

    (@mikes41720)

    Hi,

Unfortunately, this would require further investigation and deep-dive into the plugin code, which is outside our scope of support for these forums.

You can review the plugin code and view our functional specification for the XML sitemaps to check for the lastmod property.

Sorry we couldn’t be of more help here.

    Thread Starter saveatrain

    (@saveatrain)

where in the db i can find this lastmod ?
