Support » Plugins » Site was hacked, now missing all Dashboard options to customize site

  • I’m hoping I have this in the right section….
My wordpress site was hacked by Red Devil. I figured out which files were over written and changed them, I changed my passwords, deleted a mysql user (which I don’t think I ever created, but may have been created by Fantastico), I deleted any plugins I wasn’t using…

I tried to login to my admin panel and the password failed so I had to reset my password. Upon reseting my password, my username somehow got changed so I’m no longer logging in as admin…not sure how that happened, but okay.

Now when I log in to my sites admin and dashboard area I only have 2 options available to me: Your Profile and Tools (which only tells me about Turbo).

So I removed and reinstalled wordPress thinking that this would clear the issue, only it hasn’t.

Any thoughts or feedback is welcome.

Looks like that user you deleted had set themselves up as admin and downgraded you to subscriber. Do you have a backup of your database from before the hack?

Thanks, I’ll try restoring to a previous backup and see what happens.

    Yay!! we have success!!

So I didn’t actually end up restoring to a previous backup, but you were totally right. The had revoked my status as admin, changed my password and create a new user (them) as admin.

I went into myPhpAdmin into the users table and deleted them as the admin and reset myself with the privilege.

Thanks for your help on the matter.

Just out of curiosity, what is Red Devil?
