• I discovered today that the Sydney theme has made an absolute car crash of two websites I have. Not sure how it managed to do that when I hadn’t run any updates and they were both running on versions at least a year old? (Bad of me I know, but considering the problems with the updated versions you would have thought I’d have been saved from those troubles!)

One website has the slider missing, all the fonts have changed to an ugly serif but at least it is vaguely presentable and I don’t need to panic.

The other? Wow… carnage. The top menu is fixed instead of dropdown and is taking up 3/4 of the initial page view, the slider has gone, various images won’t load, the fonts have gone, it’s unusable. I ran the latest update and it made it even worse!

I’ve got really no idea how to go about fixing any of this as the Sydney Header Update notice just links to the main support page, not anything explaining the changes. Also, I am unable to access any of the theme customisation in my website, the side menu with the settings loads but the site loads an Internal Server Error. I can’t load the website at all in a couple of browsers, despite having forced refreshed.

    Hi lolo23,

Sorry to hear about these issues. Are you able to link us to the sites in question so we can take a look?

Hi, thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

Having gotten over the initial panic (!) I’ve made a bit of progress.

The site giving me the most problems is http://www.jeepjumpjive.co.uk
I have updated to the newest versions of Sydney, WordPress and PHP. Reading through other support posts I also added the wp_body_open tag into my child theme’s header file.

It doesn’t look too bad now but the front page slider is missing. In mobile view all of the slides are shown at the same time, one above the other.

My font choices have gone – I presume I can add Google fonts in manually?

    The other site is http://www.pcepoxy.co.uk
Same issues with the slider and fonts. That is still on a much older version of Sydney, so I’m not sure how your latest updates could have effected it? I haven’t run any updates yet as I wanted to wait until I know how to get the other website working.

    Thanks

You are not alone. The recent updates have not been good.

    Hi @lolo23,

Please try temporarily disabling your child theme and enabling the Sydney theme to check whether there is incompatibility issue with your active child theme or not.

In case you want me to try and inspect your child theme, please share it over email to kharis[AT]athemes[DOT]com.

Latest version of Sydney uses the system font by default and you can enable Google Fonts instead through Customize menu > Typography.

I couldn’t inspect your other site for it doesn’t load on my web browser. Did you share the correct link? Or, is there any specific IP restriction?

    Regards,
    Kharis

    Hi @checknerd,

    Thank you for chiming in.

Can you share a link to your website here, so I can inspect it directly.

    Regards,
    Kharis

Thank you, Kharis, but I don’t have the same exact issues and I believe you have already addressed mine in another thread.

    Hi @kharisblank

    Thanks for your reply.

It doesn’t appear to be the child theme, it looks pretty horrendous with the main theme enabled!

    I will email you, thanks.

    @lolo23 thanks for the email.

I’ve sent a reply already and it’s awaiting your response.

    Regards,
    Kharis
