Support » Fixing WordPress » Site suddenly started allowing pings/trackbacks?

  • I have a blog that’s 3-4 years old, has over 150 blog posts, and I’ve had pingbacks/trackbacks disabled for a LONG time.

All of a sudden this week I started getting ping notifications in my comments.

And I go look at recent blog posts and pingbacks/trackbacks are enabled.

How is this possible? Any idea what happened? I am 100% sure I did not change this setting in my dashboard, and nobody else has access to my site.

I’m doing a Wordfence scan right now but have nothing to indicate my site has been hacked/compromised either.

  • First question is: If this WordPress website has been updated to most recent version (4.9.1). Since you have not, as suggested per the forum recommendations, provided a link to your site (which can now be shown as only available for forum volunteers), it will prove most difficult for us to provide any form of support.

    Please review:

And, then know that a vibrant WordPress support community does exist and is very willing to help with wordpress.org support issues.
