My site was working fine before but a follower has just emailed me to tell me that whilst the homepage (see below) is working, whenever you click on ‘continue reading’, ‘older posts’, ‘newer posts’ or simply on a post title the site then displays a 404 and says the page cannot be found.

My site was working fine before, although I have had server issues several times today. I am hosted by iPage and they have told me that the issue is with WordPress.

Can anyone tell me why this has suddenly happened and how I fix it?

I’m not very knowledgeable about html so ‘plain English’ would be appreciated!

    My site: http://www.blahblahbecky.co.uk

  • Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting. If this works, then review Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

Thanks, resetting to default has fixed for now (although doesn’t that mean anything linked to the previous permalink will now be broken?).

I can’t see anything in ‘Using Permalinks’ that applies and helps me change it back – unless I’m missing it…?

Your permalinks were ending with .html. Was this deliberate?

No, I had set them to end /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/ and haven’t done anything to change them since I set this at the end of May – it’s been working fine until today.

Try setting custom permalinks back up again.
