• i have a few websites that are giving me trouble. they backup fine but when they upload to my FTP server for remote backup, they fail. i get errors, a file will partially upload, etc. i also have trouble downloading the backup, this gives me a timeout error. one website is 675mb and the other is around 4gb.
is there a way to upload these?

    thanks!!

  • Try and use an ftp client to download the backup, you might be running into a timeout issue by using the web interface. Then extract the files and upload them the same way on your new location.

i have several websites with this issue. i am looking for something less user involved. if i am the one who has to download the backups every night it may not happen.

any other ideas on how to resolve this?

the error appers after only 20 seconds. that seems a bit fast for a server timeout issue. when i try to download it, it errors out after 90 seconds.

and i just got this on my largest website:
    ‘Communication Error
    Response Code: 404 Not Found’
it shows up in the middle of a backup. so the backup is never performed.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

i am also getting this weh i try to send a 350mb backup to dropbox:

‘Uploading backup to the selected remote storage… errorNot Found’

i have other sites arounf this size and they upload with no issues. any help??

    thanks!!

    update:
i had two websites that were not even backing up. the backup process would start then error out in a minute or two. i found some left over files from a different backup plugin and deleted them. now these two sites create a backup with no issues. one is quite large and takes a LONG time. but, neither will upload automatically via FTP or Dropbox. any suggestions as to how i can get this accomplished? are there any adjustments in the settings i can make?
    PLEASE!

    thanks!!

You are probably running into a timeout issue from your server, to fix this, i would suggest scheduling a backup and setting up the WordPress cron scheduler to run using the server cron scheduler as mentioned here https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/wordpress/real-cron-job/

    Hope it helps

i am familiar with the cron job scheduler in my cpanel. i do have a question: i schedule my backups like i normally would. i create the cron job as described in the link you provided. thats it? do i have to coordinte the backup with the cron job (ie have them run at the same time)? i guess i dont really know what a cron job is so im a bit confused as to what it does.
this will work for one of the two website i have an issue with, the other is a godaddy managed wordpress website so it doesnt have a cpanel. but, it does its own backups so this wont be an issue.

i set this up on several different websites. it still doesnt work. a website that is 400mb shouldnt fail on upload. not blaming the plugin, just frustrated this isnt working. is there any other options in the settings i can do to get the backup to upload to ftp or dropbox (tried both, smae result).

    thanks!

Can you post here the last few lines from your scheduled backup upload to see if you might have any errors?

last few lines of what? the log file?

    Yes, the log

    (@imprint-web-design)

i will have to set it up again and attempt a backup again in order to pull the log info. i will get back to you.

    need any more?

You definitely have an issue from the hosting server, from the looks of these lines it seems the dropbox connection is created more than once and the upload never finishes

Since the backup it’s trying to transfer is the same, i would presume the cron is called just once, however i can’t figure out why the connection to dropbox is created more than once since there is no iteration in the code, i can only assume something in the hosting server is breaking that connection which would explain more likely a timeout or some kind of other limit.

the same thing happens if i try to save it to an FTP folder.
