  • My site is running extremely slow -up to two minute load. The site has been up for years and doesn’t change often. Nothing had changed since it began dragging. Steps I took:
-Checked my host control panel for size bloat (none)
    -Upgraded everything
-Turned off all the plug-ins (no difference)
    – Ran P3 anyway. P3 thinks my load time is .8 secs. Huh?
    -Threw out the logs anyway

No change! Any thoughts on my next steps?

Your site actually loaded for me in a matter of seconds, except for http://static.technorati.com/pix/fave/tech-fav-1.png which the browser spent about 2 minutes attempting to load before giving up.

This particular image exists below your “Follow us on LinkedIn” button and links to http://technorati.com/faves?sub=addfavbtn&add=http://tribeofadmins.com

    Here’s a screenshot (it’s the broken image): https://cloudup.com/cOoom4PyPSG

Considering that everything loads in just a few short seconds except this image file, I’d say it’s to blame for the slow load.

Newer browsers should load and the whole page and just let the image fail on its own, but some older browsers may wait for the image to complete loading (or give up loading it) before rendering the entire page.

Wow! Thanks for the lightning fast response and the information! I had no idea it was doing that. I have a new browser, but still, I should get rid of it. Easier said than done. I’m completely bewildered by the new theme editor. I think “Edit this entry” should do it, but it doesn’t load anything, so I guess I’ll need to do it via FTP.

“Edit this entry” only edits the post/page content, not theme elements. To edit a theme, use FTP or the editor at Appearance -> Editor in your blog’s Dashboard.

Also, this may have been added by a plugin, not your theme, or it could be something in a widget.

I realized what I was looking at after I posted that. It shows up in the theme editor. It’s not a plug in – I’m pretty sure I added it to the code – which used to be easy to change, but apparently not anymore. I’m in the theme editor – can’t change anything. Probably because of the way the theme is written.

Possibly, give SFTP or FTP a shot instead. 🙂

I’ve always prefer that myself, as I can use my own text editor.
