Hi Peter,
We’ve always added the Site Title to the end of the SEO title tag, we just released an update that includes the length of your Site Title in the character counter for the preview snippet. Nothing else has changed.
Thanks wpsmort
It is also counting the characters in my site title which then reduces the 60 characters that were available, which then in turn leaves me a minimal site title!
It definitely has changed since the last update and I have not done anything to change it!
Edit to include a screen shot link http://manxscenes.com/wi2014/WP1.jpg
Yes, correct, the counter is now accurate because it measures the full length of the title tag.
So I used to have 60 characters but now only 23 to fully describe my post!
I don’t for one minute doubt you wpsmort but I cannot get my head around the fact that previous to your last update I could fit 60 characters in.
Mmm
You always had 60 characters and you still have 60 characters, that has not changed. Your Site Title was always included in the title tag which means that if your Site Title is 20 characters long you only ever had 40 characters left for you SEO title on each post or page if you wanted the entire title tag to show. Again, this has not changed, all that has changed is that we’ve made the character counter accurately reflect the number of characters that are in your title tag.
Thanks wpsmort
So I have been cramming in no more than 60 characters in the past which if my site title was 20 characters makes it 80 characters!
Probably been ignored for many years due to this!
Thanks for the clarification anyway.
Peter
Hi Peter,
That’s fine, you’ll just find that most search engines will only display the first 60 – 65 characters of your title and the rest will be cut off.
The guidance I give with regards to the Site Title displaying as part of the Title tag is that you want that for pages, i.e.
