My blog is all messed up on Internet Ex. I just viewed it on a friend’s computer, and the display is all askew. On my Mac, using Safari and Firefox, it looks fine. On his PC, using Firefox, it looks fine, and Internet Explorer it’s no good at all.
The url is:
The sidebar is displayed at the bottom of the page and the footer is underneath. The CSS code for the blog doesn’t seem to display hardly at all on the main page, but on individual post pages, it half works ( and in individual posts the sidebar is in place, but no footer), and the post works fine as I scroll down until the end of the sidebar .. then it goes haywire again .. once the comments start and the alternate comments get messed up – mainly, it doesn’t display the white background, so the text is not visible at all against a dark background, and there is no footer.
Here’s an individual page:
I don’t know where to start, but realize I need to get this fixed asap. Any help would be really appreciated. I guess it’s a div somewhere, so I’ll start looking, but if anyone has any ideas or can tell me what to post here for further assistance, that’d be awesome.
This is bizarre: even with a new clean file of single.php, sidebar.php and stylesheet.css the site is weird .. I uploaded those files to test it, and now there is no sidebar at all, in any of the browsers I’m testing. The page tests valid on the w3 site (except for one attribute that seems to be inherently invalid in the wordpress timage uploader
Attribute "role" is not a valid attribute. Did you mean "frameborder" or "scrolling"? <div id="content" class="widecolumn" role="main">
But there is no sidebar at all on the individual post pages – there is on the main page, but not in IE. In firefox and safari.
I’m using the Default theme.
You’ve got code errors from editing your theme: [Invalid] Markup Validation of alaskanalpinetreks.com/ramblings/ – W3C Markup Validator. You’re missing closing tags, have comments that aren’t correctly closed, etc., and that’s throwing the IE display off and the sidebar out. You still might need an IE specific style sheet, but start with the most serious code errors, like the closing tags. Scroll down in the validation report to see the source code.
I’ve got errors like nobody’s business. 🙂 I’m fixing them slowly, and the problem seems to be resolved .. I think it was an incorrectly closed comment out –!> instead of –>
That seems to have fixed it.
The errors I’m getting now (and there’s still plenty of them)
are mostly to do with the bookmarking buttons on the sidebar, including the facebook link. I’m not sure at all how to correct them, if they need to be corrected, or what. But that problem I was having is fixed.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.
Good that it works now. The validation errors that have to do with unencoded ampersands aren’t that serious and won’t affect display…..
