Site Kit force refreshes Contact Form 7
-
Hi, I’m finding some weird behavior when I use Contact Form 7 with Site Kit. When I hit the Submit button, the entire page refreshes. I obviously don’t need that behavior and the extra load; I just want a confirmation to appear right below the submit button. How do I fix this without having to go to another plugin?

Thanks for reaching out @tamar. That does indeed sounds very unusual. As soon as you deactivate Site Kit the form processes as expected? If so, please share the following as we can try to determine more on this:
- Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
- When submitting the form from a Chrome browser incognito window does the same occur? If so, please share any browser console errors that appear. This can help indicate a browser or caching related block.
Once we have the above, we can propose some checks on this. Our enhanced conversion tracking feature does work with Contact Form 7, but I don’t suspect the issue is related to this setting alone. You may be encountering a multi plugin conflict, and if so, we can check if the same occurs with only Site Kit and Contact Form 7 active, via troubleshooting mode. Doing so means you don’t have to manually deactivate any plugins.
Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.
The same thing is happening in one of my websites, and it took a long time to figure out.
Once the Site kit plugin is deactivated, CF7 ajax starts working again.
I’ve basically deactivated all other plugins to pinpoint the problem.I will try to do this for you asap, but I am wondering if it is an extension of the GTM JS code (and thus indirectly tied to Site Kit; I tried another GTM plugin with a similar effect). I did the same thing as @jlugros though and that was also how I was able to isolate the issue.
Thanks for additional insights @tamar, and the input @jlugros. I’ll perform some checks on this and report back to you here. In the meantime, you may wish to check does the same occur if you disabled enhanced conversion tracking from within your Site Kit Analytics settings. As per the guide on the Site Kit website, Contact Form 7 is one plugin that we integrate with and add related JS to capture events.
Do let me know in the meantime if you had a chance to test this, while I’ll perform the same from my side. It would be great if you could also share your Site Health information so I can inspect your Site Kit setup and plugin versions.
Just to let you know that on the sites I tested this on, I’m unable to recreate the same experience. Please do share the details requested above and we can investigate this further @tamar.
@jlugros If you’d like to open an individual support topic we can communicate with you from there and investigate this. Please include any details relevant to what you’re experiencing. This may include sharing your Site Health information and whether your page reloads from a Chrome browser incognito window and with enhanced conversion tracking disabled within Site Kit. I’ll keep an eye out for your topic. Thank you!
Submitted!
Thanks for providing the additional insights @tamar. While I don’t experience the same when testing contact form 7 on my side, you may be impacted by a multi party plugin conflict. If you wish to temporarily disabled enhanced conversion tracking within Site Kit, I’d be curious to know does the same occur. If it does, please follow the steps below, which can be useful to help determine a multi-party plugin conflict:
- Login to your live site from a Chrome browser incognito window.
- Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
- Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
- From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google“.
- Check for the same error once more when submitting a form with Contact Form 7.
Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
@jlugros Given you reported the same, should you have time, it would be great to know whether the same occurs for you with Site Kit active but with Enhanced Conversion Tracking disabled within Site Kit. Feel free to open an individual support topic and I’d be happy to work with you from there to try and pinpoint any issues.
Hi @jamesosborne – I don’t even have the Ads service activated on Site Kit, so I’m not sure it’s a conversion tracking issue. What else could it be?
For whatever it’s worth, I disabled everything except the bare minimum (I kept Elementor, basically), and the issue only seemed to persist with Site Kit. I’m not sure what kind of conflict would exist with only the basics installed? I have a feeling this would still happen with a vanilla installation, but I don’t want to go that far just yet…
Thanks for the update @tamar.

Conversion tracking is not exclusive to Google Ads, it can be applied for Google Analytics also. Can you please check if the same occurs with conversion tracking temporarily deactivated?

Thanks for checking. Rather than disabling all plugins manually, by following the steps suggested with the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, it will disable all plugins for you, while switching to a core theme. One of the steps also mentioned to check from an incognito session to check for any browser related factors. From my checks I didn’t encounter the same with Contact Form 7 on a vanilla site with only Site Kit and Contact Form 7 active, so it would be great if you can confirm the same by using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, while also checking with Enhanced Conversion Tracking disabled.
I’ll also set up another site in the meantime and perform some additional checks.
Hmm, I have a pretty basic GA setup; it wasn’t even completed and now I see a “set up conversion tracking” button that is green on the right hand side. I guess that means that wasn’t the culprit.
I’m not seeing how, when I click Troubleshoot on the Health Check plugin, it shows an Available Plugins tab. Can you show a screenshot of what I’m supposed to be seeing?
Thanks for the update @tamar.

Are you referring to the setting within Site Kit? If so, it would be great to know whether the same issue occurs with conversion tracking disabled within Google Analytics.

Certainly @tamar! You’ll see a screenshot of where to see this by visiting the guide we added to the Site Kit website.
Please do confirm whether the same occurs with conversion tracking disabled, and while in troubleshooting mode. Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.
Okay, so I gave this a shot, but I noticed some unpredictable behavior (sometimes it refreshes, sometimes it doesn’t) on the live site, and at one point hitting the submit button loaded a page that just said 0, which could’ve been a forced refresh or something. I only had CF7 and Site Kit installed. I don’t really know how to best isolate this issue, but I was incognito and constantly purging my cache…
Thanks for the update @tamar. It sounds like you managed to get the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin active. I checked the form on your site, and in my case the page reloads but mainly due to an error (screenshot).
I also performed some checks elsewhere on this and it may be normal that your page reloads after submission, see this guide. If you want to temporarily deactivate Site Kit, I will check to confirm that that same occurs with Site Kit deactivated. I suspect what you’re facing is not related specifically to Site Kit.
On a separate note, to help confirm whether this is related to Site Kit, and maybe a particular setting within the Google Analytics configurations, can you please share whether you checked your this with this disabled? I’m eager to know whether the same occurs with this deactivated, as we do have integration and capture events specific for Contact Form 7 with this settings. Please do let me know.
As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.
hang on, haven’t had time to check yet!
