Check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

    Error logs on my server???

It’s a World Press site hosted by World Press hence why I’m posting this issue on a World Press forum!

I thought I was asking my hosting provider to help me since they don’t do phone support and said to post in the forums!

WordPress.ORG does not host any sites (WordPress.COM does but your site is not there.)

Do you have FTP access set up? Using that you can start by renaming the plugins folder to pluginsHOLD. See if that lets you login.

No I don’t have FTP access, I’ve always used the web to log in rather than a 3rd party program.

It seems to me my site has vanished forever since getting help on this, (and perhaps the site reset by someone with direct Admin access), isn’t going to happen.

Oh well, maybe it’s time to start a new site :/

FTP or Cpanel really isn’t hard to use – most hosting companies have info about using it easily findable. Sorry it’s been troublesome – these kinds of things are part of running any website, WordPress or not.

A blank page doesn’t mean that your website is gone – it just means that there is a php error – and once you’ve removed what has caused the error, your site should be visible again.

And in any case, your content is in your database and shouldn’t be affected at all from a problem like this.

    Where is your site hosted?

It’s removing what caused the error that’s the issue. I can’t even log into the site to do this.

As far as hosting goes, I have no idea. I figured it’s a World Press site since that’s the dashboard I’m using

Who do you pay? Looks like Tektonic?

    http://www.whoishostingthis.com/?q=themechanic.co

As I said, WordPress.ORG does not host sites – it’s just software and volunteer-staffed forums here.

Looks like they have support here:

    https://manage.tektonic.net/index.php/knowledgebase/

Or do you, possibly, pay someone else to host your site (there)?

    TheMechanic,

FYI, I am having the same issue since I did the same WP update and theme updates.
I have tried the plugin folder rename hack without success.

The last successful log events for my website before it started reporting “500 Internal Error” were

    /wp-admin/update.php action=update-selected-themes&themes=twentyfourteen%2Ctwentythirteen%2Ctwentytwelve&_wpnonce=c2ca591aaa 80 – {InfoRemoved} 200 0 0 6687
    /wp-admin/load-scripts.php c=1&load%5B%5D=hoverIntent,common,underscore,backbone&ver=4.1 80 – {InfoRemoved} 200 0 0 187
    /wp-admin/load-styles.php c=1&dir=ltr&load=dashicons,wp-admin,buttons&ver=4.1 80 – {InfoRemoved} 200 0 0 250

@battlehawk2014 – if you need assistance, please start your own thread – it’s actually unlikely that your issue is identical (as your site is not identical) and it’s simply very difficult to have multiple conversations in the same thread. Start a new one here:

I do not wish to start my own thread. I just wanted to let TheMechanic know that he was not alone…
    TheMechanic,

    I resolved my issue by:
    Stopping IIS
renaming the /wp-content/themes folder to /wp-content/themes_old
extracting the /wp-content/themes from the original source file from https://wordpress.org/download/
    Starting IIS

I can access it on mobile. Has this been resolved?

Seems to be working on Laptop as well – yay!!

    Hey,

Just in case this hasn’t resolved (and regardless of the fact it’s a .com website), updating themes can cause this kind of thing.

Have you built your own using another theme as a basis? I know whenever I update Bueno my individually-built theme goes absolutely to pot, half the website disappears and the other half is comprehensible on some computers, whereas on others it looks (sort of) okay. You should try reverting back to previous theme installs if you’re still having issues with your site.

The guy who built the site for me, (the arrangement is I look after his bike and he looks after the site šŸ˜‰ ), uses CPanel and he fortunately backed up the site on the 15th so he restored it last night.

It seems it was the site update to 4.1 and a theme update which caused this issue so rolling it back got the site back on line.

The thing is I’m unsure who hosts the site, all I do know is when I log in the bottom of the dashboard page says “Thank you for creating with WordPress”

Anyway it’s all sorted now šŸ™‚
