Site hacked, locked out from Google, Firefox
Hi folks. After much frustration, I’m posting here in search of help. A couple weeks ago, I began getting this message when visiting my site from Safari and a similar one with Firefox:
This web site at http://www.jeremystyron.com has been reported as an attack site and has been blocked based on your security preferences.
Attack sites try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system.
Some attack sites intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners.
It’s also red flagged in Google, which is obviously not good for traffic. After taking numerous steps, including checking with my host to see if things were secure on their side, downloading the entire site to my harddrive and running a scan, following suggestions at http://wordpress.org/search/hacked?forums=1 and manually going through the php looking for code that shouldn’t be there, I did a fresh install last night. I deleted all records and tables from the database and deleted everything from the directory containing the wordpress site. There was another directory which was running a Joomla test site, which may have also included bad code, but I deleted that entire directory too and put it on my harddrive for the time being. Now, I’ve got a fresh install, new database files, but am still getting the message.
Does anyone know if the site could be flagged if there are files containing bad code sitting in the directory that don’t have anything to do with the wordpress site? For instance, I have a small page at http://www.jeremystyron.com/lightshire that in theory could be affected by bad code somewhere (although it’s unlikely) but could that keep the root from opening correctly?
Any other suggestions? Consequently after this debacle, I have now locked it up tighter than a drum using AskApache, but I’ve got to get the junk cleaned up before being able to use it again. Any help you guys can provide is appreciated.
