Support » Fixing WordPress » Site disappeared from google index after wordpress migration

  • Hi all,

I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to website administration so please forgive my ignorance.

Recently (in late July) we migrated occupiedlondon.org from drupal to wordpress. Our blog, occupiedlondon.org/blog was running on wordpress from the beginning, a separate installation with no problems at all.

Once the migration of the main website was completed, we did notice a sharp fall in google indexing but thought this must be because of the time google bots would take to crawl the new website. After a while, it was completely gone!

The website is using a pro theme (arthemia premium) and last night we discovered there were hidden spam links added to footer.php. We’re suspecting this has caused a ban from google, except:

    – Google webmaster tools claims the site is indexed as normal. Actually a site:occupiedlondon.org search will show a few (very few) pages are in there somewhere.

    – No e-mail was received from google warning of a ban, trawling the forums seems to indicate that is what they would do.

    Questions!

    Would anyone know

    – how would it be possible to tell if the site is banned?

    – how were these spam links inserted in footer.php and how do we prevent this from happening in the future?

FYI, we’ve also got ‘All in one SEO pack’ installed, together with a few other addons, all of which, together with the wordpress core, are running on their latest versions.

Many thanks to whoever takes the time to look into this…
