    Hello

After updating to WordPress 5.5.1 I have encountered some issues with depreciated code in the back end of my WordPress site (jQuery.fn.live() is deprecated). The site was launched in 2017 and I think the issue stems from outdated jQuery code (our site using version 1.12.4 and current version is 3.5).

The theme was created by a developer specifically for us (it was not just purchased from the web).

I am currently using “Enable jQuery Migrate Helper Plugin” as a short term walk around (I realize this is only a short term solution).

I have notified the theme developer and as yet they have not updated the code to fix the problem.

My question is should I expect the theme developer to routinely update code? We do not pay a annual subscription but I believe we paid a decent sum to set up the site.

Also if the developer does fix the issue should I expect to pay for their time updating code?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

  • If you paid for a bespoke theme and no on-going support, then you should expect to pay for any updates that you’re requesting now.

Thanks for the reply. That does seem fair enough.
Would you recommend purchasing a generic theme online with an annual subscription instead? It is likely to get updated more often and have some support included?

We have quite a basic page so I think I would manage customizing the theme.

I think we paid about $5,000 to $10,000 for the website set-up. $100 annual subscription for a theme seems pretty cheap and might ensure updates?

It may, but only if you find a theme that does everything that you want it to the way that you want it to. Not all themes can do that. If you’re thinking about that it’s well worth investing in a development are that wil let you play with themes and settings without affecting your live site.
