How to change the default admin username properly:
    – In dashboard, go to users > Add new
    – Add a new user with admin rights (don’t call it admin)
    – Log out of WordPress – Log back in as your newly created Admin user
    – Delete the default Admin user

Tara, thank you for the reply however this is not possible. None of our logins display this area, we are no longer admins and cannot create users.

Are you trying to create new password? Yes? In WordPress, there is more than one way to set your password.

    Tara,
No, our passwords work. We are all able to login however we are no longer admins, or rather we are but something causing problems with this. We cannot edit or post pages or do much of anything. We are told you submit pages for review by admin. The Update for WordPress 4.1 says to contact site admin. We have no admin tools available etc. But we are the only admins. If it is not us, it is no one. I have checked the database lines in phpmyadmin and our user level and capabilities etc mirror what has been suggested in the posts I was able to find but this has not fixed the issue.

    But then you are saying:

    confusing!

    Tara,
I apologize if I am not explaining this well. We are able to login. Having only ever used this one WordPress site I am not familiar with the user levels. However, my guess is that once a site is set up you can set specific user levels so that one person can login and make changes but these change would then need to be approved by someone. This is what we appear to be facing, however we never changed our user level. We all were admin level users. However, now it appears that we have lost this and have been changed somehow to a lower permission level – this includes the profile that set up the site. There are four users for this site. All four users were set to admins. However, now this permission is gone. Our profiles appear as some lower level user and anything we do within the site has to be “approved.” The problem is that there is no profile or user login that has the admin level of control any more.
