# Site admin not loading

 * When I log into my site ([the-ethic.org](http://the-ethic.org)), I get a blank
   page in Firefox and an HTTP 500 Internal Server error in IE. Looks like people
   on this forum had similar problems about 5 years ago, but I didn’t see a solution
   and that thread is closed.
 * I allow cookies and haven’t added any plug-ins in over a year. Haven’t made any
   changes other than posting content since I set it up.
 * The website is still working fine on the front end, and it shows me as being 
   logged in. But when I click on the edit page icons or the admin link I get nothing.
   Help please!!

 * Hard to say. Anyway you can see the web server error logs? (if you have a cPanel
   or something similar) The cause of the problem should be logged there.

 * I checked the error log in cPanel, and it’s not showing any errors at all.

 * Looks like you are using WP3.0?? Yikes – that’s a MAJOR security risk.
 * Have you tried deactivating all plugins by changing the name on the plugins folder
   to `plugins.HOLD`?
 * If that does not work, change the name on your theme’s folder so WP will use 
   the default theme – make sure that there is a default theme in the themes folder
   first.

          themes
              sunset.HOLD
       ```

 * I’ve tried updating the WP version a couple of times, and it always says it’s
   not successful. Will try again as soon as possible.
 * In the meantime, just got my first error message:

   wp-content/themes/sunset/style.css/images/favicon.ico

 * Now you’re going to see how un-techy I really am.
    I’m looking at all of the 
   folders in my cPanel and can’t find anything labeled plugins. Searching did not
   turn anything up. Either I don’t have any or I don’t know where to look. * * *
   Reinforcing my previous point: Just found the plugins folder. Need to figure 
   out how to apply a command across the board.

 * I renamed both the plugins folders to plugins.HOLD, but it didn’t help.
    I’m 
   nervous about disabling the theme – won’t that mess up how the website appears?
   I don’t know if this has anything to do with the problem, but is it normal to
   have a whole lot of repetition in your file path? I found 3 different plugins
   folders under WP: 1) under blog/wp-content 2) under blog/upgrade/wp-content 3)
   under blog/wordpress3.tmp/wp-content 4) under blog/wordpress31.tmp/wp-content
   Changed all of them to plugins.HOLD.

   new content.
