Hi. I recently upgraded to WordPress 2.2.1 through Dreamhost’s one-click install. After that, I installed some plugins and widgets, notably WP-UserOnline (2.11), the WP-UserOnline widget (2.11), WPG2 (2.13), and the wpg2block widget (1.0). Around this time, I noticed that the Site Admin link in the meta section does not appear while logged in. My session is still active, because clicking “Login” brings me to my Dashboard without entering any login information (Login appears where Site Admin should be). But when I click View Site in the Dashboard, it takes me to my blog’s homepage, but doesn’t give me any admin privileges (can’t edit posts, for example).

I thought the problem might be with the plugins, but I deactivated them all the problem persists. Any help would be appreciated.

My blog is at <http://anothersunnyday.com>.

• I was having the exact same symptoms. After futzing around a while, the culprit turned out to be the fact that my blog address was located in a subdomain while wordpress install dir was not:

wordpress install dir:
<http://www.mydomain.com/wordpress/>

blog address:
<http://blog.mydomain.com/>

The problems finally went away after I moved my wordpress install directory under the subdomain:
<http://blog.mydomain.com/wordpress/>

Now “Site Admin” link appears instead of “Login”, and “Edit this entry” appears on each post. Heaven! Hope this helps.

Hey raescreations, thanks for the help!

I’ve got the opposite situation; my blog address is a domain (anothersunnyday.com), whereas the directory that WordPress is in is at blog.anothersunnyday.com.

I’m going to consolidate everything into the domain and rid myself of the subdomain, hopefully this weekend if I have some time. I’ll let you know if that fixes it. Thanks so much for the help!

No problem! It had me puzzled too, so it’d be great if we can confirm that domain/subdomain discrepancy indeed is the source of the trouble. Good luck, and please do report back.

Hi again. I have not yet moved the installation to the root domain, but I do have a piece of evidence that seems to confirm your solution to the problem. My installation is at blog.anothersunnyday.com, but my blog address is set to anothersunnyday.com. When I am logged in and go to anothersunnyday.com, the Site Admin link is not present. But when I am logged in and go to blog.anothersunnyday.com, the Site Admin link shows up and all is as it should be.

It seems your solution was correct: it seems to be some problem with the blog address being different than the WordPress installation location. Once they’re both the same, all problems seem to be fixed.

Odd, though. This wasn’t happening before I upgraded to v2.2.

Problem resolved. You were right!

I just moved everything over to my root domain and now the site administration features are working as they used to. Thanks again for the help!
