    Hey,

While I am currently making a backup of all my core files and databases, I am asking on here about what steps you would take migrating a few single sites to one network install.

The sites in question is my personal blog which runs at snat.co.uk and all the sites I want to move are currently using WordPress and running a subdomain of the domain snat.co.uk.

What I figured is when I created the network installation (come to in a min), I simply just export the XML from all the subdomains and recreate them on the network admin panel and then just restore the XML. I have no need to worry about the users as they are all currently sharing the users from snat.co.uk using a plugin of mine.

Only thing I am having a problem with is how can I turn the main site snat.co.uk into a network installation without losing any content and making it the default blog so that it still works on the main domain as before.

This is the only thing I can see a problem with. Export the XML for this one won’t work due to an issue quite some time ago with qTranslate. Thanks if anyone has an idea what to do.

you just… enable the network. It doesn’t do anything with the content in that blog. That blog becomes the main site in your network.

And for the subsites, yes – XML import is the easy way if you;re just worried about the posts themselves.

    hardcore db methods:

Oh right, so it is as simple as I thought. For the subsites I don’t care at all about anything else in the database other then the posts and pages.

That’s fair enough then, I was expecting this to have been a headache. You have my thanks.

Remember, a network is pretty much the same thing as you running wordpress.com. 🙂 they definitely have ways to import & export people’s blogs. 😉

Indeed they do. I have used WordPress Multisite before, I was just making sure if I turned my single site into a network that it would become the default one as I can’t export the XML for certain reasons I am not going to go into (it ain’t a bug or anything with WordPress, it’s of my own doing with my setup).

Many thanks for your replies, time to get it done 🙂
