Support » Fixing WordPress » Simultaneous users of one single subscriber account?

  • I have a blog that has protected content. I want to allow approx 200 people to be able to read the blog but don’t want to have to set up 200 new users. Since they will only be subscribers, editing isn’t an issue. Are there any issues that would come from that many people using the same username and password to sign in and read the blog? Is there a limit to how many people can simultaneously use the same username? I’ve read a lot of posts about this, but the main negative point seems to come from the editing end, not reading.

  • For something that’s not editing, simultaneous users won’t matter to WordPress, and will only really matter if your server can’t handle that many connections at the same time (hint: most servers should be fine with that).

Another way of doing it is ot set up a password-protected page, and just distribute the password for that page to all of the users. It will ive you the same end result, but without needing to worry about any user accounts.

Thanks catacaustic. The blog is actually behind a paywall but we want to give access to a large group of people for free. You need to be logged in to get to the protected content. There are still subscribers that will be paying monthly for access. Otherwise password protecting the page would definitely be an easier route. I guess we’ll give it a shot. I just didn’t want the site to crash or log people out for having too many people trying to use the same username.
