Simple product attribute/variation

It seems the attributes and variables are (naturally) for reasonably complex product variations. I can’t get it right for something very, very simple. Each product (dog collar) will be shown separately….no color or size variations as I have handled that via categories. ALL I need is a drop-down in order to choose which ID tag the customer wants with the collar (there are about 10 choices). Would ‘ID tag choice’ be an attribute? Then the tag styles the variables? Two of them would cost more, too. I am fairly new and need the advice, thank you.
