Simple Page Ordering Fails to save new order – spins forever
-
I have been using Simple Page Ordering for a few years to reorder posts, but it quit working last week.
When I drag a post to reorder it, it sits in the new location but spins forever and never actually saves its new sort order. I suspect its one of two things causing the reorder to fail.
1. I have about 800 posts. Could the reordering be timing out due to the large number of posts its trying to reorder? If so, how do you recommend fixing.
2. The last update was 6 days ago on March 21st 2020. Could something have changed in version 2.3.3 causing it to not work in my setup? I use it to reorder posts (not pages) by setting ‘hierarchical’ => true, per the documentation.
Any help resolving this issue is very much appreciated

Hi @dlovas1, we released 2.3.4 to fix your issue, please update : )
Tung,
Great! I will run the update today and report back.
Thanks for the quick version release.
Daniel
Tung,
The issue is still occurring after updating to 2.3.4 as advised in your last post.
After I drag/drop it will spin for a long time if the sort order numbers are far apart. It will eventually complete the spin, but when completing the numbers in the sort order number column do not change. The post will appear in the admin table in the new order, only until i refresh the admin table then it goes back to its original position.
Please let me know if you can help with this further.
Daniel
Can you test reordering in the incognito mode? I want to check if it’s the cache issue.
It can be considered a bug of our plugin. We have a fix waiting for reviews to address this issue. Thank you for testing and reporting back!
Tung,
Reordering in incognito mode did not resolve the issue or bypass the problem.
Daniel
@dlovas1 Did you notice any console log error in your testing? If yes, can you post it here (use https://pastebin.com or Gist if it’s too long)?
I tested with 1000 posts WP installation and I can’t reproduce the issue, so any screenshots and details are much appreciated!
I am not noticing a console error

@dlovas1 can you send me the Site Health information so we can debug your issue better?

@dlovas1 thanks for the debug information. The memory limit looks good so it may not the resource problem. We still can’t reproduce your issue in our end but we will keep an eye on this issue. If you have any insight or updates, feel free to reply to this topic.
Tung,
I’m happy to look into this furhter, just not sure where to look. Is there anything suspect with my setup (conflicting plugins, server-side hosting settings) you suspect could be causing the issue? That would at least help point me in the right direction to investigate further.
