Simple Gallery Please!

    Do you have any suggestions for a VERY basic image gallery? My client wants a list of thumbnails on the right and a large image in the main area of the content. When the thumbnails are clicked, the main image changes. That would be simple enough, BUT he wants to be able to edit it at a later date, himself, so that he is not dependent on me every time he paints another paining he wants on his site. I have been searching and nothing has worked yet. An example of what he wants is this: http://www.christinegray.com/ .

    I am new to Word Press and need help with the ‘gallery’.
    When do I insert one image at the time from the media-library or use the gallery ?
    If I want three images next to each other and list them left-center-right, they show up one below the other.
    Sometimes the gallery appears with the column option, at other times not.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Somewhere I read: ‘gallery is created for every blog’. I clicked on ‘format > gallery’, but they still did not line up horizontally.
    How do I get back to the archive of all the unsuccessful trials and delete them ?
    Where is the best guide to using WordPress for a blog ?
