Simple Facebook Connect
[resolved] [Simple Facebook Connect] extra text with any login form widget (8 posts)

I expect that my site will be used by both WP users and people who would like to authenticate with Fb.

Therefore I have tested a couple widgets that produce a login form to the sidebar. They all have one problem in common when used with SFC.

Any login form will have an extra plain text sentence "Connect with Facebook" somewhere above the actual login forms "Login" button. The text appears when the "SFC Login" plugin is active even if the "SFC Connect Widget" is not active.

I have traced the issue to be related to the point where the login form makes a reference to "wp-login.php". That is where the extra text is displayed.

Question: How do I get rid of that text without touching WP core files?

Is your theme missing the wp_footer() call? The plugin should be adding JS to the page that will turn the text into the Facebook login button.

I'm using WP 3.0.4 standard twentyten theme. Therefore I assumed it does things according to WP standards.

... and so it seems to do in footer.php at row 50 just above closing body.

In case I was unclear: The extra text shows on the sidebar in the middle of any login form as soon as the "SFC Login" is activated.

After activating "SFC Connect Widget" the sidebar shows BOTH the extra text inside the login form and a valid "Connect with Facebook" button below the form.

The actual WP login page works fine with no extra symptoms. The problem is with sidebar login forms only.

Plugins tested to make sidebar login form and have the problem:
    - Enhanced Meta Widget
    - Login With Ajax
    - MiniMeta Widget

The only one working is "Sidebar Login" but I am reluctant to use it since it has no control over and no connection to Meta links.

Since we are on the subject of the actual button: Why does it show the same "Connect with Facebook" caption even when you are connected? Shouldn't it be "Logout ..."?

did you ever figure this out? I am having the same problem using the login with ajax plugin.

Actually no. I changed this to resolved because I changed the Fb plugin to Facebook Connect.

Currently I have no Fb connectivity since authenticating against Fb servers slows down page loads.

I'm having this same problem with SFC and Login with Ajax. I posted on Otto's (SFC creator's) page about it:

Can anyone help us with our problem?
