Sideblog – only entries of one category?

Hello,
I want to have a “normal” blog in a big middle segment and a small “sideblog”.
The middle-segment should show all entries of all categories – but without one. The entries of this one category should show the sideblog – and only one (the newest) entry of the category.
Example:
In the middle segment is all about “lifestyle”, “dresscode”, “news” (thre categories) and so on. The sideblog has a “tip of the day for palm users” (category “palm”).
With pivot it was very easy to do this – but I’m just a beginner of WordPress. How can I do this???
