Support » Fixing WordPress » sidebars in widget admin area not expanding or collapsing

  • Hi

    All of a sudden the sidebars (widget areas) in the widget admin section are no longer expanding and collapsing so I cant edit or add additional widgets to areas.

    They were working fine and now they are. I have deactivated plugins to check for conflicts there but those are working fine.

    Never had this issue before the latest wordpress update (which I did a clean install with before I built the site). The widgets in the sidebar various sidebars do show in the front end and operate fine.

  • Hi,
    If you did not installed any plugins then fault is in your functions.php file of active theme. You need to delete last closing “?>” that is closing tag of php. Remove final closing tag of php.

    In case if this if happening because of some plugin you need to find out exactly that plugin which is causing this by deactivating plugins one by one, And when you find that plugin which is causing this problem then do the same steps in all .php file of that plugin and remove final closing tag of php “?>”.

    Hi Friends,
    I Just installed a fresh copy of wordpress-3.2.1 but i am facing some problems

    1. I cannot access the ‘Screen Options’ panel. Same thing, I click it and nothing happens.

    2. I cannot drag/drop any of the boxes on the dashboard.

    3. The ‘Incoming Links’, ‘Plugins’, ‘WordPress Blog’ and ‘Other WordPress News’ boxes never load their contents.

    4. I cannot collapse any of the sections in the navigation (on the left) unless I am in that particular section of the Admin interface. So for example, if I want to collapse the ‘Tools’ section, I cant just click the small arrow next to ‘Tools’. That does nothing. I have to click the ‘Tools’ section, then once the Tools page has loaded, I can collapse that section of the nav.

    * No plugins is there.
    * Not even a single post is there
    * It is completely a fresh copy of wordpress-3.2.1

    Friends please me to short this issue
    Thanks in advance.

    I can’t able to fully understand your problem but I have some solution may be useful to you. Your Problem is may be of WP_MEMORY_LIMIT.

    in wordpress root folder open wp-includes/default-constants.php

    on line define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '32M');

    change it to 64M or more.

    It can also be problem of javascript or jquery.

    I have seen jquery.

    In jquery, before every double quote(“) and single quote(‘) a backslash(\) is coming and i think it is creating some problem.

    Please tell me how i remove it

    Error: illegal character
    Source File:,utils&ver=fb5c271ac01e8186b23ece33d5ce4961
    Line: 16, Column: 135

    (function(a,b){function cy(a){return f.isWindow(a)?a:a.nodeType===9?a.defaultView||a.parentWindow:!1}function cv(a){if(!cj[a]){var b=f(\”<\”+a+\”>\”).appendTo(\”body\”),d=b.css(\”display\”);b.remove();if(d===\”none\”||d===\”\”){ck||(ck=c.createElement(\”iframe\”)

    Now my issue is almost resolved
    I do 2 things

    1. my magic_quote is on, now i put them off
    2. Clear cookies and history .
