Support » Fixing WordPress » Sidebar won’t update when adding sidebar.php manually, no widgets

  • Hey there. After many hours of tinkering around with my template I have finally got my design the way I want it. However, my theme is not widget enabled, and I do not want it to be. I am happy with the design the way it is, but when trying to add links and images to the sidebar, it is not updating immediately after I refresh the page, and sometimes not at all.

One way around this (well, it worked once) was to download and install the “disable wordpress widgets” plugin, however, as I found out via google, other people are getthing the same error as I am when navigating to /wp-admin/ when this particular plugin is active:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: register_sidebar() in /home/trendy/public_html/wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php on line 12

Deleting the “disable widgets” folder from the /plugins/ directory allows me to login to the admin dashboard, but I would like to just be able to get this working.

Anyone have any clue? Thanks for your time.

Most likely has to do with a cache somewhere, either a wordpress plugin or your browser cache. Clear them and you should be able to see the updates.
