Sidebar won’t open or drop down

hello,
I’m new to WordPress as of yesterday,so I’m pretty sure that everything I have loaded is the current version. I started working on my site and noticed how slow it was responding almost immediately..It is fairly inconsistent. Sometimes it if faster or slower…every time I refresh the page or save something the time it takes to load the page varies incredibly I should mention that I am using Thesis 1.6 on WordPress 2.9.2 and Firefox 3.6 .I got Google Gears and didn’t notice any improvement at all.
Anyway, I added a few text widgets to the sidebar and they worked for a while, but all of a sudden, it froze up completely. I tried doing the “screen options” and “help” but they won’t drop down either,so that is of no help to me.
I removed all of my plug ins and still nothing (I tried that as well with the slow reloading issue as well).
So far, I’m thinking that WordPress is a waste of my time.Please help Prove me wrong.
