• Once upon a time I had the sidebar drag and drop for the default theme working. However, a couple of days ago I accidentally over-wrote one or more of the files in the theme’s directory and I know one of them was sidebar.php. Now, the sidebar widgets option no longer appears in the presentation menu. As I recall I had to rework that file to get the drag and drop thing to work in the first place many months ago, but I don’t remember what I did. What do I have to do to get the default theme “widgetized” again? Yes, I do have the pluggin activated. Hope some one can help.

  • http://automattic.com/code/widgets/themes/ describes widgetizing a theme.

Why not consider upgrading to 2.3.1 as the default theme has widget included. If you do that make sure you deactivate all plugins, but also delete the old widget plugin files.

Thank you so very much for pointing me to the information!
The problem was the functions.php file.

Oops! Sorry about that. I thought I had it resolved. That is to say sidebar widgets did appear in the presentation menu and even displayed the draggable function. However after dragging a couple widgets and saving them I received the following error message.
    Line: 296
    char: 5
Error: “Draggables.drags[…].element.id” is null or not an object
    Code:0
    URL:…wp-admin/themes.php?page=widgets/widgets.php

I found this area in widgets.php, but don’t know what to change. Is this something that must be changed by the program? I read everything in the articles where you sent me last time, but do not see an explanation for this. As I mentioned earlier I had this working before and thought all I had done was inadvertantly over-wrote the functions.php file. I also tried disabling the widgets plugin, re-activating it before recalling it from the presentations menu, but that didn’t work.
I did try upgrading before I got on this fixing campaign, however, I have multiple installs and my database went crazy and I considered myself fortunate to recover from that with no losses.
