Support » Fixing WordPress » Sidebar under posts

  • Hey all,

Searches have shown a number of things that could cause this, but none of the solutions I read seemed to work.

My sidebar keeps appearing at the bottom of the page rather than (where else?) the side. I’ve tried shortening post titles, deleting pictures, adjusting column widths, and even changing themes with no luck.

Any ideas what could be causing it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I’d start with disabling/deleting that code for a plugin in the sidebar (recent whatever).
Secondly you may want to take a look at your code’s validation:

With that number of errors it is quite impossible even to guess what causes the sidebar to sink.

Holy crap. Thanks for that, moshu.

Clearly, I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ll start digging through it. They mostly seem to have something to ‘font’ being undefined.

    Re: font.
Why do you have any kind of font definition in the body of the text? Are you copying your posts from some kind of crappy word processor, like MS Word?
    Don’t do it 🙂

I was a fool. I was having major problems with blockquote in the editor and I took the cowards way out.

I’ll try not to stray again. Is there a word proceesor that would be safe for drafting? Maybe even just Notebook?

I guess notebook should work fine because it has no text colours, sizes or whatever…

    You mean Notepad?
Yes, and additionally see the plain text editors’ list:

Sweet. Thank you both for the help and thanks for the list of approved text editors.

I’ve got my error down to one. (a order problem I’m looking for in the stylesheets.)

But still no luck with the side bar. Would that one error be the source or could it be something else?

Hmmm… Now that the errors are mainly gone, we can look at other thngs.
I looked at the stylesheet of your theme and found this:
    DESCRIPTION: Single-column and content-centered. For WordPress 2.0+
In my books “single-column” means no sidebar.
If you just added the sidebar without re-working the design’s dimensions… no wonder, sorry.

There was a thread about adding sidebars, and here is what I posted there:

I just looked at the simplr theme you are using. It looks like it is designed to put the sidebars under the posts, unless my old eyes are deceiving me.

    LOL 🙂 I didn’t even think of that… Sorry.

Wow. Sorry for being a total idiot on that one. I’ll switch back to the original theme and see if the bar reappears there.

    Again, thanks Moshu.
