• Hi There –
I am having trouble with a website I’m working on because the sidebar info is not showing up on all the pages of the site – it only seems to be appearing on the blog page:
http://livingmissionally.info/blog/ (with sidebar – as it should be)
http://livingmissionally.info/ (without the sidebar – not good!)

I’m using the 2011 Theme which I imagine is widely used so I feel like this should be easy to figure out – but I can’t do it.

Any tips, would be very appreciated. Thanks so much!

  • You have just found the thing that people complain about most in Twenty Eleven. It shows a sidebar only on the blog page!

Now, you should be using a Child Theme anyway, not modifying Twenty Eleven. If you modify it, all your changes will be lost the next time the theme is upgraded.

Here is a link to a child theme that you can install to get sidebars on all pages:

Wow – thank you so much for the info! I went ahead and installed the child theme but still the sidebar is just present on the blog page. It looks as though I have to edit the single.php (or sinle.php – the article listed both files and I’m guessing it was just a typo) file to make it show up.

I’m not sure what to change though. Can you please advise?
Thank you sooooooo much for the help!

I don’t think you need to edit any code. Did you activate the child theme?

Yes I activated it with no effect other than moving the text over leaving the space for a sidebar on all pages except actually showing the sidebar on the blog page. What’s up?
I’m also using the WP e-commerce plugin – would that prevent the sidebar from showing?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Go to Admin->Appearance->Theme Options and make sure that one of the sidebar layouts is selected.

I just checked and the sidebar layout is selected. I tried putting it on the left side instead of the right to see if that might make it appear on every page but still no change.

Any other ideas on what to do to get it to work?
I really appreciate your help and insight!!

Thank you for the advice –
I just installed and activated the 2011 Theme Extension plugin and again it didn’t make the sidebar appear on any of the other pages besides the blog.

I’m skeptical that the e-commerce plugin might have something to do with things but I’m reluctanct to deactivate it…if I turn it off and turn it back on will I lose the product data posted in it?

    Thanks for the tips!
