When placing the TOC in the sidebar, it only appears when I expand the TOC in the article as a duplicate. Thus, I’ve got a TOC in the sidebar AND in the post folded out or hidden. Wish to exclude viewing the TOC in the article but always see it in the sidebar instead. Btw: expanding in the sidebar doesn’t work. Has to be done in the post itself.
Furthermore, headlines in the sidebar are cut off once they are too long for one line. Is there a way to insert a line break to continue reading the headline below?

The short answer is that the widget and post insert are not designed to use together. The intent is to use one of the other. Perhaps in a future update this can be addressed if enough users choose to use both.

As for the line wrap issue in the widget, I am aware of it. But I have not found a way to deal with long lines that also maintain the correct indent level and current section highlighting. Perhaps in time someone with better CSS skills will come along and be able to offer a solution.

Actually I don’t want to use the widget and post insert at the same time, but can’t use the widget without the post insert. When deselecting in the settings to show TOC, there are no headlines showing up in the sidebar widget. Can you explain how to use the widget in the sidebar with the regular Customizer without placing the TOC in the post as well? I expected to select “none” for position in the TOC settings to do so.

Which theme are you using and does it have a visual page builder?

I’ve got the Ocean WP theme installed: https://oceanwp.org

Are you using any visual page builders?

Not sure what this is. I’m using Elementor as well, not for the sidebar though. I’m adding elements (widgets) in the sidebar by the Customizer.

Elementor would be a visual page builder. Use the Elementor Shortcode widget and add [ez-toc] to the widget. According to another user that method works with Elementor.

    Hope this helps!
