Support » Fixing WordPress » Sidebar & Footer disappeared

  • I have updated some standard plugins I have been using for two years. My sidebar and footer then disappeared from my site I have had no issue with this in the past.

The sidebar in the backend was noted as inactive and I was not able to reinstall my widgets there.

When I disabled all the plugins then the sidebar was reinstated but missing some widgets.

I have activated the plugins and am now doing a backup of the site so I can also update WordPress to the most 4.7.4

Are you able to help please?

    Hi Rachel,

For the missing widgets you can see if they are present in the inactive Widgets at the bottom on the Appearance->Widgets page. You will have to re-drag and drop them to the required sidebars to get the widgets in the sidebar working.

For the missing footer, was it a menu in the footer? If so, you could try checking the Menus under Appearance->Menus and see if the footer menu is disabled.

The footer could also be a footer only of Widgets. Again you will have to re-drag-drop the widgets in the Footer Widgets section from Appearance->Widgets.
