 * Would someone be so kind as to give a newbie some advice on how to change the
   background colour of the sidebar on the home page? Also how to add a left border
   to that sidebar.

 * Hi Jezebel,
    Try adding something like this to your Custom CSS area, or if there
   is not one in your theme, just use a Custom CSS plugin:
 *     ```
       #secondary .widget-area {
          padding: 0 10px;
          background: #CAC2B5;
          border-left: 1px solid #999999;
       }
       ```
