Support » Theme: Hexa » Showing Navigation Bar By Default

  • I’m just wondering how I would go about making the navigation bar shown be default, without having to toggle it first. I’d still like the toggle buttons to work, but I just want to have the navigation bar shown by default when a page loads.

    Thanks!

    You can give this a try:

    .panel#menu-toggle-nav {
      display: block;
    }

    Don’t edit the theme files directly, otherwise your changes will be overwritten every time the theme is updated to the latest version.

    An easy way to add custom CSS is to install the Jetpack plugin and activate the Custom CSS module. You’ll then add your custom CSS in the new stylesheet editor that’ll appear in your dashboard, under Appearance > Edit CSS.

    As alternatives, you could either install a standalone custom CSS plugin, or create a child theme.

    Worked beautifully! Thank you very much. The only thing is, now the menu button is backwards. It turns white when it’s disabled, and grey when it’s enabled. It’s not a huge deal, but if you have a simple fix, I’d be all for hearing it!

    Thanks again 🙂

    elfin8er – could you provide a link to your site so I can take a look?

    @zoonini, you can see an example on http://www.stijnbiemans.nl – I used your custom CSS and experience the same problem; when the toggle button is inversed (lights up when not visible)

    Furthermore, is it possible to not show the menu by default when on mobile? On PC the menu doesn’t take op that much space (and the child menu items are visible only on mouse over) but on mobile both the menu items and the child menu items are visible by default now and it takes op way too much screen space!

    @stijnbiemans – I had a look at your site but I’m not clear what you mean by “the toggle button is inversed (lights up when not visible),” as the correct icons seem to be lighter when active/open. Could you describe the issue in more detail?

    When you do, please provide a screenshot pointing out the issue you’re trying to solve. You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or GIF – in your Media Library, and provide a link so I can see it, or upload it with a service like Cloudup, Imgur or Snaggy.

    Furthermore, is it possible to not show the menu by default when on mobile?

    Yes, you can wrap the CSS in a media query to restrict the change to happen above a specific screen size.

    I can help you with the specific code in your new thread, once we sort out the other issue.
