Is there any posibility to have some sort of category-list in the sidebar of the directory?
When someone is looking at one company, I’d like them to be able to switch to another category imidiately.
Thanks in advance!
Yes, you can do that. Use the standard WP category widget and select the Business Directory categories for display. That widget recognizes custom post types (which is what we use) so it will display our categories just fine.
You can also do the same with the tags widget as well.
Interesting – the Tags widget displays your categories fine but I can’t see options in the standard WP ‘Categories’ widget to select your categories. What am I missing here?
Sorry, I misspoke–the tags widget is the one I meant for Categories. You are correct. We don’t have “tags” so that’s why it gets used.
Bit confused, I installed the Category Post list Widget but cannot see the business-directory categories for display. I can only see Pages I’ve created.
The category widget I’m referring to is the standard one issued by WordPress. You need to select the custom post type for BD in there (Business Directory I think) and that will allow you to show BD categories. I’m not sure what the Category Post list widget is.
This one? This is the only other plugin that mentions ‘category’
Not sure what you mean, there’s nothing to select.
What version of WP are you running there? That looks like an older widget to me.
Can you contact me with admin credentials to your site so I can see this directly?
So after some research, we found two things:
1) The standard WP widget doesn’t support this and I was incorrect in thinking it did.
2) There IS a plugin that DOES support this out of the box: http://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-taxonomies-menu-widget/
It definitely works with BD categories, no problem. I think that’s the best solution here, as we don’t have a widget that does this yet. This one seems as good as anything we’d create anyhow.
