Support » Plugins » Show on Fronpage, plugin exist?

  • I have not written or published plugins before. I’m very interested in having a toggleable “show on frontpage” status for blog entries.

i.e. I’d like users to be able to bypass the frontpage if they are feeling timid about their post.

I’m wondering if anyone is using a plugin that handles this. If not, i’m curious what best practice would be for writing such a plugin.

My primary concern in writing this plugin would be that I would alter a table thus making my wordpress install incompatable with future plugins / upgrades

i.e. adding field show_frontpage boolean to the posts table

or .. creating a supporting table that contains primary keys of entries not-to show..

    Thanks a lot

  • There are plugins which allows one to set a Page or categor[y|ies], but I don’t know of one which allows one to select which posts to display on the home page. Something like that is often asked for though.

‘Best practice’ would be to set up a separate table if you find it necessary, but most plugins which need to retain only limited amounts of data typically create a record in the options table. See the Codex docs on plugin development for more:
