Support » Theme: Twenty Sixteen » Show footer widgets on blog landing page

  • Hi Support

    I have searched and searched and combed through the theme files to find what I would need to do to have the content bottom widgets show on the blog landing page of a child theme.

    I must be missing something. Can you enlighten me, please and thank you.

  • the call of the content bottom sidebar is already in the index.php template (if you have the posts on the landing page) and in page.php (for a static front page).

    so generally, if you have any widgets in any of the ‘Content Bottom’ widget areas, they should show.

    what changes have you done in your child theme?

    can you provide a link to your site?

    Hi Micheal

    Apparently it is a feature of the 2016 theme not to show the content bottom widgets on the blog feed page or the attachment template. Only shows on pages and single posts. (see this thread https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-do-i-get-content-bottom-1-and-2-widgets-to-show?replies=4 )

    There has to be a way to put them back, don’t you think? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    my mistake.
    you are right, the default Twenty Sixteen does not have the call in its index template.

    I was looking into index.php of my 2016 child theme, which looks like this near the bottom:

    </main><!-- .site-main -->

    	<?php get_sidebar( 'content-bottom' ); ?>

    	</div><!-- .content-area -->

    <?php get_sidebar(); ?>
    <?php get_footer(); ?>

    that should show the ‘content bottom’ widgets in the blog page.
    you might need to make the same edit to archive.php to have the widgets also in archives.

    as far as I remember, it does not need any changes to the CSS …

    Oh gosh, so simple. I thought I had looked everywhere.

    Thank you, Micheal!!!

    p.s. I just started so I have nothing up yet, so no site I can send you to.
