Support » Plugin: Slash Admin » Show Extra Options to Editors, Another Role

  • Giorgios,

We have a couple of requirements for our WP user environment that are met (and greatly simplified) by this plugin, specifically where Editors are provided access to Menus and Widgets, and even the Customizer.

However, we still need the standard Editor role without access to the Appearance options.

Which is the more straightforward path, in your opinion, based on your experience:

    1. Create a new “Editor Plus” role (copy the Editor) and modify the function of your plugin to use that role instead to allow the appearance options.

    2. Create a new “Editor Simple” role, and just use that to assign users with the default Editor capabilities.

Thanks in advance for your insight.

  • Hello Joe,

I understand your dilemma. Personally, I would prefer the second solution (“Editor Simple”). The reason is that doing so, you avoid plugin modifications which would cause you trouble with every update (you should either remember to modify the plugin after the update or just stop updating).

Perhaps this could become a nice feature in some future update, allowing admins to apply the settings for custom roles too, instead of only for editors.

    Giorgios,

I see you understand, and I appreciate the feedback.

Yes, perhaps see with future development depending on overall usefulness and requests, perhaps integrate with User Role Editor or Members plugins, and also make pizza.

    Thanks again!
