Show category from custom post type in calender list

Hello,

I’m trying to show the event list on my page from custom post types instead of the usual posts. This works fine, except the categories don’t show. The taxonomy for these categories is ‘portfolio_category’. How can I make sure the categories of these post types will show on the calender list items?
