Support » Requests and Feedback » 404 error upon file not found – is the behaviour correct?

  • Simon99

If I’m viewing a WordPress page that contains missing images / css files / javascript files, I think it’s the case that each of those missing files will cause WordPress to be loaded again.

This seems to be a waste of server resources (loading the core, all plugins, theme etc) and can cause problems with certain plugins (since there are multiple requests for every ‘real’ request).

I’d much prefer to see a default 404 page (at least for the file extensions I’ve already mentioned) that doesn’t require WordPress to be loaded completely. I think there should be a distinction between a page not being found and a file not being found.
