Support » Plugin: Jetpack by » Should inactivate Jetpack before update?

  • Resolved icedream91

When I tried to update Jetpack, the WordPress always showed me “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance”.

I have tried many time, and I have also tried other versions of Jetpack and WordPress, but I got the same result.

Finally, I found that if I inactivated Jetpack first, then it will update successfully, then I activate Jetpack again.

Does Jetpack have to be inactivated before update?

    Jetpack Mechanic 🚀

This process is similar for all other active plugins, and to all WordPress updates: when you update an active plugin, your site is put into maintenance mode, the plugin is updated, and then the maintenance mode is disabled.

If the plugin is inactive, your site doesn’t switch to maintenance mode during the update, indeed. You could consequently disable Jetpack before each update if you don’t want your site to go through the maintenance mode message. That’s up to you!

If your site were to get stuck in maintenance mode after an update, you can follow the instructions here to disable the maintenance mode:
