• Could use some guidance or suggestions please.

The owner of the theme I’m using (WP Comet) has stopped providing updates for the theme. The theme is not compatible with several of the updated PHP versions and I’m using an outdated version still so my site runs smoothly.

I would just simply switch to a new theme, however, we are a local company and everyone LOVES our website and even tell us our website is what made them want to reach out to us vs other people. So ideally, I’d like to keep the same site.

Would you think hiring someone to update the theme to be compatible with the latest PHP version is ok or could that just open a whole can of worms and instead just have someone copy over the site using Elementor or something?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

  • Of course, the decision is entirely yours. Judging by your description, an update of the theme would probably make the most sense. This will preserve the experience of your obviously delighted visitors. However, the effort for the adjustment could be quite large – and you would also have to work on it again regularly. In addition, you would still be dependent on the possibilities of the theme. If you wanted to try something new, you would probably have to ask a developer again – depending on how the theme is technically structured.

Choosing a new theme can therefore have a positive effect – a fresh start, up to date, and you probably don’t have as much effort and probably less costs with it. But ultimately, of course, the decision is totally up to you 🙂
