• Will install itself without permission by All in One SEO. They will give some feeble excuse like “we offered you optional extras during setup” – but that’s not true. Then they immediately want your credit card “in case you want to upgrade to the pro version”

    And it’s horrible popup garbage.

This is the most unethical company I have ever seen produce a plugin. They deserve to go out of business.

  • Hi @bdgtc,

You’re right; OptinMonster can be downloaded when signing up for All In One SEO (AIOSEO). While OptinMonster is automatically selected for download, you can de-select this option before moving forward – https://a.supportally.com/RLbSNb.

We believe these two plugins work best together. AIOSEO helps you bring more visitors to your site by improving your website’s search rankings. Once AIOSEO brings visitors to your site, OptinMonster shines. OptinMonster allows you to turn those visitors into subscribers to grow your email list, get more leads and improve sales.

We do this through campaigns that appear on your site as various styled popups.

Popups can definitely suck when they’re not done the right way. But, websites with popups consistently outperform websites without them and can even increase conversions by 2100%.

We know this strategy isn’t for everyone, though, and that’s okay. We wish you luck in your future endeavors.

This is a low-level response. It’s not obvious the plugin will install – so the only reason for that is you are trying to sneak it in – it takes effort to make something hard to detect. The honest method is to offer it to people and allow them to opt in. NOTHING should ever be installed by default. People only use this trick when they know the plugin is unwelcome.

I work as a professional website performance analyst. Your claims of 2100% increase in conversion rates have NO EVIDENCE to support them, and are outrageous. The average conversion rate for pop-ups is around 3%, the same as the average for any website. Companies offering popup products claim they can – if well designed – achieve a conversion rate of 10%. Which is – at best – a 300% increase over the average for a website. And this from people trying to get you to use them. No one claims 2100%.

However, empirical studies found NO IMPROVEMENT from popups. See “Hurry up! The effect of pop-up stores’ ephemerality on consumers’ intention to visit” in the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Jan 2021.
